Do I need to live in Orleans Parish to apply to Audubon Charter School?
No, you do not need to live in Orleans Parish to apply, HOWEVER, if you are accepted through out lottery process, you will need to provide proof of residency in Orleans Parish to register your child for school.
What grades to you offer?
The French School accepts students in Pre-K 3 through 8th grade.
The Montessori School accepts students in Pre-K 3 through 8th grade.
How old does my child have to ben in order to attend Audubon?
Children entering Pre-K 3 must be 3 years old on or before September 30th
Children entering Pre-K 4 must be 4 years old on or before September 30th
Children entering Kindergarten must be 5 years old on or before September 30th
Can I apply for both the French School and the Montessori School?
No, you must decided on either the French School OR the Montessori School. The two programs are very different and once admitted into the school you cannot transfer from one program to another.
Can I set up an appointment to tour the school?
We have several Open House/Curriculum Meeting dates for parents to attend. Check the Admissions Important dates link for specific dates and times.
My child does not speak French and did not attend a French Immersion pre-school. Can I still apply for Kindergarten in the French school?
Yes. We do accept Kindergartent students with no prior French experience. Students are required to demonstrate adequate proficiency to enter first grade, therefore your child may be required to have two years of Kindergarten.
Is the Pre-K a full day program? Yes
Is there a charge for Pre-K?
Yes. Audubon currently assess a maximum fee of $4,570 per student, per school year for both the French and Montessori Pre-K programs. Students who qualify for Special Education or Gifted services do not have to pay this fee. Students entering Pre-K 4 who qualify for free or reduced lunch do not have to pay this fee. Students are selected by lottery and accepted based on availability, not ability to pay the fee.
Students who do not qualify for Special Education/Gifted or LA4 funds have the opportunity to apply for a reduced fee. Once a student has been accepted to the program, the parents can submit financial information through School & student Services to determine the amount of you fee. Details on how to apply will be given to parents once they are accepted into the program.
I am applying to 5th grade, does my child have to take the LEAP Test?
Yes, all students entering 5th grade must take and pass the 4th grade LEAP test. If your child is not attending a public school in Louisiana, you mut register your child to take the LEAP test. Audubon's Admissions office can provide you with the registration forms for the test.
